Columbus Works, Inc. currently offers a training program- and a special project: the GED/Job Readiness and YouthBuild Project for out-of-school youth and young adults, programs we have delivered since 1995. Individuals receive counseling during training and after job placement, as well as in-house legal counsel and advocacy to eliminate barriers to employment and job retention.

GED/Job Readiness Training Program

Job Readiness and Academic Skills Training for Youth and Young Adults provides a uniquely comprehensive array of intensive, integrated services that take participants step by step from dependency to independence in six months or less.

The program curriculum consists of six weeks (there are six classes throughout the year) of full-time classroom training in employment, career and life management skills, basic education, and basic computer skills.

Participants are required to perform at least six hours of community service assignments to enhance self-esteem and social skills, promote identification with staff as role models, and provide work experience during the training period.

The YouthBuild Project

In 2003, Columbus Works, Inc. initiated a special project, Columbus Works' YouthBuild Project. This project is a six-month comprehensive on-the-job training in the field of construction. After completing the initial six-week GED/Job Readiness program, participants (17-24) continue to work toward receiving their GED and job development. To learn more, click here.
